On Friday 10 November 2023 Associate Professor Dimitrios Akrivoulis will give a guest lecture on “The end of humanitarian intervention? The hermeneutics of suspicion and the discourse of humanitarian intervention”. The lecture will be held in the framework of the course “Peace, Sovereignty and International Organization” taught by Assistant Professor Antonia Zervaki.

Dimitrios E. Akrivoulis is an Associate Professor of International Political Relations in the Balkans. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Kent, UK, and an LLM in International Studies and LLB from the Law Faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He is a visiting professor at the Dept of International Relations of Bilkent University, Turkey, and at the MA in Political Science and the MBA of University American College Skopje, North Macedonia. He has also taught at the Dept of Politics and IR of University of Kent, UK; the Law Faculty and the Dept of Political Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; the Dept of Balkan Studies of Aristotle University-University of Western Macedonia; the European MA in Human Rights and Democratization of the Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratization, Venice; the Dept of Economic Sciences of University of Macedonia. He is the coordinator of the Hermeneutics and Politics panels at the Political Studies Association, and coordinator of Politics First, an open lecture series on international political theory of the Dept of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies, University of Macedonia. He also served as Secretary General of the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations. His research interests focus on IR Theory (international political theory) and continental political thought, with an emphasis on Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutic phenomenology, applied especially in the field of humanitarian intervention, collective memory, the social imaginary, and the use of metaphors from natural science to international political thought. One of his monographs has been awarded by the Hellenic Parliament.
