PROFESSOR DIMITRI A. SOTIROPOULOS

Course: Political Change, Democracy and Crisis in Southeastern Europe

Dimitri A. Sotiropoulos studied Law at Athens University (LLB, 1984), and Political Sociology at the LSE (MSc) and Yale University (MA 1987, MPhil 1988, PhD, 1991 awarded with distinction). He has taught at the University of Crete,  the Institute Juan March, Madrid and Tufts University. He was Senior Research Fellow of the Hellenic Observatory at the LSE (2003), and Visiting Fellow in Oxford (2009-10), the Sciences Po (Paris, 2016), Harvard University (2018-19) and Princeton (2019). Dimitri has published articles in various academic journals and fifteen books in Greek and English. His research interests lie in the comparative study of new democracies, public bureaucracies, welfare states and civil societies in Greece, Southern Europe and the Balkans. He has been teaching on the Postgraduate Programme since 1999. His most recent publication is The Oxford Handbook of Modern Greek Politics (co-edited with K. Featherstone), Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2020.
